Trans America Trail

It’s been a long time coming... I’ve been dreaming of this trip since 2012. Very soon, Paul, one of my business partners, and I will embark on the trip of a lifetime!

We will start on the beach in North Carolina and end on the beach in Oregon. Estimates of about 6,700 miles will have clicked off on the odometer before we get to the beach in Oregon!

We had a small test run back in May with John, the third owner of our company. More updates will be posted soon

SPOT Satellite Tracker

When traveling on an adventure... it is good to share your location and progress with family/friends. Especially when we take the two month trip in 2020. Anyways, I've got the SPOT Gen3 tracker (www.findmespot.com) and I've got it setup with 2 min 30 second tracking and the ability to call for help even in remote (no mobile phone access) areas.

Here is an example of the type of information that can be provided - in fact, you can refresh this post at anytime, it should provide my "latest and greatest" location.

Highest motorable pass in the world?

Manali to Leh.

Sounds interesting. Maybe 2021. Over 18k ft above sea level across the Himalayan mountains.

Smoky Mountain 1000 - Offroad Adventure

Several friends and I are going to be headed to the Smoky Mountains for a 1,000 mile offroad adventure. This is one of many warm-ups we'll be running until the 2020 TAT.

If you're interested in learning more about the Smoky Mountains 1,000 - here are a couple links:
1. https://www.facebook.com/groups/229150894116972/
2. https://advrider.com/f/threads/smokey-mountains-1000.1233049/

The four of us will be taking a leisurely pace, most days will be between 150-175 miles. However, one day we have a whopping 275 miles. We will see if we can make it... remember, this is all off-road and on slow curvy/mountainous roads.

We leave in about a month's time - no exact dates yet. However, I'll post a spotwalla tracking link on my page before we leave so everyone can keep up with us.

I wanted to do some camping - but some of the guys we are going with prefer more comfortable accommodations. I'm still going to be packing my camping gear because I really need to start testing the weight distribution and my setup.

While on the SM1000 adventure, we will be staying in some pretty nice cabins / lodges throughout the Smoky Mountains.

The bikes that will be on this trip:
2 x BMW f800GS
1 x KTM 990 Adventure R (biggest bike in the crowd)
1 x KTM 790 Adventure R

Until we leave, I'll continue to ride locally. I might be able to convince my wife to go up to Ocala national forest for an overnight camping expedition.

2019 KTM 790 Adventure R

Picked up both KTM 790 Adventure R's on 6/8. Been riding it around a little, tested off-road as well. I can tell you that I already love this bike.

Quick ride around the property and through the creek - btw, I'm horrible at using GoPro's video editing... so I messed up the transition from the creek.
